The beauty of our merino wool and combed cotton knitwear lies in the combination of fibres. The wool adds warmth and recovery whilst the cotton gives weight and structure, perfect for creating chunky rib-stitch sweaters, dresses and cardigans that are soft and luxurious.
The wool is supplied by Südwolle, a family-owned German company that has specialised in spinning wool since its foundation in 1966. The wool fibres are sourced from merino sheep in Australia and South America, the quality of the yarn is second to none.
The cotton is combed to remove impurities and the shorter fibres leaving long, straight fibres which are even and aligned. The result is a yarn that is softer against the skin as well as stronger and longer lasting. To further enhance the yarn, the fibre is 'top-dyed' before being spun. Top-dyeing enables us to produce melange colours as well as giving the yarn an even softer hand feel.
We twist the wool and cotton yarns together, mixing tonal colours to create heavier weight knits in lovely, rich colours.
The garments are expertly crafted by one of our longest standing suppliers, a small knitter based in Hong Kong. We have enjoyed working with owner Robert and his dedicated team, Ann and Carmen, for over 20 years. Their knowledge, experience and attention to detail is second to none. The factory has recently been audited as part of our Fair Wear membership. We are proud to have them as part of our team.
All our combed cotton is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) from the organic fibre source to the spinning of the yarn. GOTS is the leading standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria and is backed up by independent third-party certification. We are working on extending the certification to cover the entire textile supply chain.
